years of sth后接单数还是复数？
老师，您好。请问在如下翻译中，years of...为何跟的是单数has呢？我google了“years of * has"及"years of * have"，两个都有很多用法。是不是前者说的是”在数年间做的某事“，所以用单数，而后者是指出数年这个时间？原文：养了五六年的鸡，关于鸡的心理，我也留着了不少的幽凉的记忆。鸡的生活中我觉得很有和人相类似的爱的生活存在着呢。
参考译文：Five or six years of chicken raising has left me with a deep impression of how chickens behave. Like humans, chickens also live a life characterized y love.

在这句话中，Five or six years of 是作为定语，修饰 chicken raising ，换句话说，chicken raising 是主语部分的中心词。谓语当然跟中心词一致，而不跟修饰语一致。
相反，网上找到的 The Best Years of Our Lives这个短语的中心词却是 years 。

判断中心词一般看翻译成汉语后的意思，在汉语中，“的字结构”都是充当定语，的字结构后面的是中心词。
比如 a number of 翻译成“大量的...”，the number of 翻译成“……的数量”，谁是中心词一眼就看得很清。
同样，Five or six years of chicken raising 翻译成“5到6年的养鸡生活”，而 The Best Years of Our Lives 翻译成“我们生活中最好的年头”（黄金时代），判断中心词也十分容易。
不过，以上只是一般规则，依靠汉语翻译并不能解决所有问题。更多规则请参考下帖：
