◎简 介
第二次世界大战结束后，在一座小岛上,格蕾丝(妮可·基德曼)独自抚养着两个孩子安妮(Anne)和尼古拉斯(Nicholas)，等待丈夫从战场上归来。由于两个孩子身患对阳光过敏的重病，不能接受阳光的晒射，只能呆在室内。所以格蕾丝将他们居住的那所巨大的公寓里所有的窗帘都拉得严严实实。
有一天，仆人不辞而别，格蕾丝只好又雇了三位仆人，他们是保姆米勒太太，园丁特托先生和哑女仆人琳达。三个人的到来似乎给房子增添了几分生气。但是一系列奇异的事情开始发生了，门会自动关上，钢琴自动发声，安甚至说她在屋子里看到了一个叫维克多的陌生男人。
蕾丝逐渐感到这座房屋被诡异神秘的气氛包围着，她陷入了不安之中。一切都变得扑朔迷离，难道屋子里除了他们之外真还有其他人存在？那三个仆人仿佛也有些让人捉摸不定，他们究竟又抱着何许目的呢？其实格蕾丝自己也是个颇有点古怪的女人，在这种环境中她也有些歇斯底里了。
一场噩梦开始了，格蕾丝和她的孩子面对的似乎是超自然的力量……
