怎样翻译汉语约数？（如：5000多）

原文：他去年还买了一辆桑塔纳轿车，成为镇上5,000多名私家车拥有者之一。
参考译文：He also bought a Satana last year to become one of the town's 5,000 car owners.

老师，从参考译文看，英语里一个精确的数字，5,000，可以表示汉语里的约数，5000多，可以这样理解吗？我在其他地方也看到过汉语表示“……多”，“超过……”，但在英语里就直接翻译了数字，不加over, more than等词。可我觉得数字是应该要求准求真的，所以不知这样的用法是否准确。

IsaacZ的理解：当数量非常巨大时，多几个少几个已经没有区分的意义。比如，more than a million people 可能直接翻译成“100万人”，而不是“100多万人”或“100万多人”。反之亦然。

老师，看到这样一句的翻译：
原文：我们有几十万留学生在国外学习，为他们回国后创建适当的工作条件相当重要。
A. We have dozens of thousands of students studying abroad, and it is quiet important to create suitable conditions for their work after they come back.
B. We have tens of thousands of students studying abroad, and it is important to create suitable conditions for their work after they come back.
（以B译文取胜，这里是讲可以不用quite）。
我疑惑的是，为什么”几十万“译为”dozens(tens) of thousands of呢？不应该是hundreds of thousands of吗？我觉得这个范畴也不一样了呀。
